Mickey Scarpato is a hard-drinking gambler, who lives in the working class community of God’s Pocket. He is married to Jeanie, whose son Leon works on a construction site and doesn’t realise how much trouble his big mouth can get him into. The young man speaks out against the wrong person and is killed with a swift blow to the head. The other construction workers cover up the crime and attempt to pass off Leon’s death as a tragic accident. However, Jeanie suspects something is amiss.
