Captain Webb (12A)

In 1875, retired merchant seaman Captain Matthew Webb dives into the choppy waters at Dover in a wire wool swimsuit, with only a few doses of brandy to keep him warm. Webb intends to traverse the English Channel with support from a self-proclaimed “swimming professor” with distinctly unorthodox methods. As Webb braves biting winds, multiple jellyfish stings and treacherous currents, he recalls key episodes from his seemingly unremarkable life.
