Little Agu is orphaned when rebel soldiers storm his village and indiscriminately kill many of the men, women and children including his father and older brother. He is eventually captured by the Commandant, who leads a motley crew of child soldiers that have been trained to kill anyone who opposes the anti-government movement. Agu is forced to kill one prisoner with a machete and learns first hand the devastating power of a grenade.
