Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress (Balzac Et La Petite Tailleuse Chinoise) (12A)

During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, bourgeois city boys Luo and Ma, who belong to reactionary families, are sent to the Phoenix Mountains to be re-educated. There, the youngsters quickly find a distraction in the Little Seamstress, the granddaughter of the local tailor who, like them, hankers for knowledge. When the boys discover a cache of books by the likes of Flaubert and Balzac, they risk everything to read the forbidden texts to the Little Seamstress and free her imagination.
