In 1960, Rachel falls for handsome Parisian translator Philippe. She falls pregnant and is left to raise their daughter Chantal on her own. Rachel devotes herself to her child. They build a stable, loving home and Chantal thrives in the absence of her father, despite the many obstacles that Rachel must overcome as a single parent.
