London Fashion Week - Day 3: Tuesday, 13 February 2007

A model wears one of Gharani Strok's creations. Copyright LondonNet LimitedToday was an exciting one for London Fashion Week, with celebrities and the fashion who's who crowded into the front row to see what designers like Christopher Kane, Gharani Strok and Paul Smith had to offer.

Christopher Kane's models wore Manolos down the runway, which seems fitting since Mr Blahnik himself was watching from a front row seat. Kane's show was one of the most anticipated of all Fashion Week, and by the time his first model hit the runway, the Covent Gardens Topshop venue was jam packed.

The designer dazzled audiences at his spring/summer 2007 show last September, and now that he's a "veteran"--this was his second show after presenting his graduate collection for Central Saint Martins last year--he delivered a knockout performance again with rich leather and velvet dresses. For those who thought he couldn't do it again, he did.

Peaches and Pixie Geldof were on hand for this morning's PPQ show, and Margo Stilley and Tamara Beckwithwatched Gharani Strok this afternoon. As Fashion Week moves on, competition to get a coveted runway ticket is getting fierce. The guest list for the Giles show, which is expected to be one of the week's biggest sights to see, had to be slashed just today to comply with venue capacity, according to Vogue.

Nargess Gharani and Vanya Strok compiled a stunning collection this season, with vivid pops of fuchsia and lilac brightening up their primary colours of black and cream. The newest Gharani Strok line came full of flattering pieces, ranging from tunic dresses to sailor attire.

The design duo added made their models look even taller and more willowy than normal by using vertical line detailing and embellishments (silver plates, beading and so on) down the front center of their dresses. The collection was elegant, strong and still playful, full of things any woman should be proud to have in her closet.

Nine designers are set to present their collections tomorrow. Belgrade native Roksanda Ilincic, who's won the attention of Claudia Schiffer, will show first on Wednesday, with Jasper Conran, Hamish Morrow, Eley Kishimoto and others presenting later. If tomorrow's shows go anything like today, guests should cross their fingers that they'll have enough room to sit comfortably while watching.
