Get The Look: Kate Moss and Madonna
Lovers of celebrity fashion will be in high street heaven this spring, when lines by trendsetters Kate Moss and Madonna will be put on store racks a mere few weeks apart.
The 'M by Madonna' women's wear collection for H&M will be available beginning 22 March, and Kate Moss's line for Topshop will hit stores 1 May. With both lines targeted toward younger, fashion-savvy shoppers, the rival stores may have to compete even harder than normal to lure customers.
This will be Madonna's second time working with H&M. The clothing chain also created off-stage attire for her dancers, band and crew during her Confessions World Tour, and H&M stores sold specially-designed Madonna track suits.
For 'M by Madonna,' the singer turned style icon teamed with H&M head of design Margareta van den Bosch to create a line of clothing and accessories, which are said to put a modern spin on her wardrobe staples.
Philip Green, owner of Topshop's parent group Arcadia, told WWD he wants to turn the store's partnership with Moss into a global brand. Linking Moss to any product has traditionally caused sales to skyrocket, whether the item for sale is a UKP2.99 charity bag at chemists or a UKP750 Burberry Manor Handbag.
Both H&M and Topshop have previously drawn interest for their celebrity-designed lines. H&M has featured collections from Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld and Victor & Rolf, while Topshop has sold clothes by Zandra Rhodes, Marcus Lupfer, Celia Birtwell and Preen.
Shoppers, prepare yourselves: in practically no time, you can see what all the latest designer fuss will be about. Mark your calendars, and get your wallets ready.
