Duchess Kate's birth plan to rack up £10,000 in private hospital costs

Duchess Catherine will give birth in the Lindo Wing at St Mary's hospital, a date with royal destiny that could cost £10,000 and her suite boasts a fridge, a safe and dedicated kitchen staff.

For comparison, a birth in a normal hospital costs the NHS around £1,500, while a birth at home costs £1,000. As with Catherine's likely payments, births in private hospitals typically come in at around the £10,000 mark.

Expectant mums who give birth in the Lindo Wing of the Paddington hospital - the same one in which Prince William was born to Princess Diana - are treated to luxury, top-of-the-line care from a dedicated maternity team including experts in obstetric, neonatal and anaesthetist care, according to the MailOnline.

Catherine, 31, will also have access to the internet and a selection of newspapers which will be delivered to her suite each morning.

And should the duchess have any final pregnancy cravings before the birth, the Lindo Wing's dedicated kitchen staff are available on call at all times and are able to meet various dietary requirements.

Duchess Catherine and Prince William, 30, will also be able to toast the birth of their heir with a glass of champagne chosen from an extensive wine list, which is made available to patients.

It was revealed yesterday that the royal couple do not yet know the gender of their impending bundle of joy as they want it to be a surprise.
