She told The Sun newspaper: “I would absolutely love a part in Mr Selfridge. I’m qualified after all, and I know the history behind it all.

“When I first started working in Selfridges, we had a big talk about when and how it first opened and they talked about founder Mr. Selfridge as well.”

The 25-year-old star is up for Best Dramatic Performance at the National Television Awards for her current storyline as a surrogate mother to friends Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) and Gary Windass (Mikey North).

Michelle recently said: “I didn’t expect to be up for a nomination. I came in as a new actress as well. I know it sounds cliched but to be fair I think Alan should win; he has done amazing this year. He has not stopped.”
