The Beatles legend gave the private performance to the late Princess of Wales and her two sons, Princes William and Harry in January 1993.

Paul, then 50, was filming a video for his single Biker Like An Icon at Pinewood Studios in London when he was told a special VIP guest had asked if she could come in.

Paul’s former spokesman Geoff Baker told the Daily Express: “We said it was strictly no visitors until we were told, ‘Yeah but it’s Princess Diana. The princess entered the set holding the hands of the two princes.”

William and Harry – then aged 10 and eight respectively – were the ones who inspired Paul to give live renditions of songs including Can’t Buy Me Love and I Saw Her Standing There.

Geoff added: “The royal party went to the stage and Paul asked the boys what they would like to hear him play.

“They said ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ and so Paul led the band through an impromptu royal command performance.”
