The legendary singer and his partner David Furnish – who own production company Rocket Pictures – have teamed up with playwright Lee Hall to create Rocketman, which will tell the story of Elton’s life through his music.

David will produce along with Steve Hamilton Shaw, while Elton will be the executive producer.

Steve said: “Rocketman will be a radically different kind of biopic. It will be as unique as Elton’s life, told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man.”

A director is yet to be found while producers have many actors in mind for the role of Elton, whose hits include Your Song, Rocketman, Candle in the Wind and Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word.

However, they might not have to look that far as James McAvoy recently offered to play the role.

Elton had previously revealed he would like Robert Downey Jr. to be one of three actors to play him in a movie about his eccentric life but would also be keen for Scottish actor James to portray him.

Elton said: “Well James McAvoy could do it. He’s already offered.”
