The Take That singer – who judges the ITV1 show alongside Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland – will pen the track, which is to be released as a contender for the Christmas number one spot, and bag a £1 million bonus in addition to his #&163;1.5 million salary.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: “The move will be a huge boost to the show’s credibility as it means the X Factor single won’t be just another cover.

“It’s a licence to print money for Gary. It’s not like there is one winner. Whoever comes second usually has a good career like Olly Murs and JLS, he could end up writing for all of them.

However, Gary has ruled out writing the track if the eventual winner ends up being a novelty act.

The source added: “He’d be too embarrassed. He wants integrity more than money.”

Meanwhile, X Factor hopeful Kitty Brucknell – who was sent through to the Judge’s Houses stage of the competition last night (25.09.11) – is concerned taking part in the show could put her health at risk after she fell ill with Guillaine-Barre syndrome, which attacks the nervous system, last year.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she told a friend: “I know X Factor isn’t the best thing to do after what I’ve been through. Stress and strain could kill me, if it affects my immune system.

“But I can’t let this ruin my chance to be a star. I think it’s a risk worth taking.”

However, show bosses have confirmed the welfare of the remaining hopefuls is of “paramount importance”.

A spokesperson said: “The welfare of our contestants is of paramount importance.”
