The government has confirmed to the Daily Mail that honours discussions have taken place about The King’s Speech star at Cabinet Office level, one of the last steps in the process by which candidates for knighthoods go forward.

On top of that, it is understood that the Queen herself liked the actor’s performance as her father, for which Firth picked up a Best Actor prize at this year’s Oscars.

“Colin has been a great ambassador for Britain throughout his career and his sensitive portrayal of King George VI has won him much admiration among the Royal Family,” a source told the Mail.
