US TV show Saturday Night Live has been accused of being “disrespectful” to the royal family, after linking the Queen to the IRA.

In a sketch about Pippa Middleton’s bum, an actor playing Her Majesty says:
“I call my ass the IRA, because when I walk into a pub, people’s heads explode.”
The ‘joke’ is a reference to the IRA pub bombings of 1974 when dozens of innocent people in Guildford and Birmingham were murdered and more than 200 others suffered injuries.
“To attempt to tarnish the queen is unforgivable,” wrote Kate Evans, a contributor to the Daily Mail’s comments section.
June from Nottingham agreed, arguing the skit was “extremely disrespectful to our Queen & Her Family. Easy targets as though do not retaliate.”
