The Candle in the Wind singer is to be accompanied by legendary keyboard player/guitarist Leon Russell, whose near half century in the biz has seen him play with everyone from BB King to the Beach Boys and from Eric Clapton to Joe Cocker.

“I’m delighted to be kicking off this year’s Electric Proms, particularly as I’ll be joined on stage by Leon, who is one of my musical heroes,” said Sir Elton.

There was also a strong hint that some other big names will join the duo on stage.

“The performance will feature some very special guests and memorable moments,” teased Sir Elton.

Among those special guests are rumoured to be Plan B and Rumer. Tickets for the Electric Proms go on sale later this month.
