Dear LondonNet readers,

GET INTO LONDON THEATREIt's a New Year and the Mayor of London is feeling generous. He's staking a wad of our money behind a cheap ticket intiative creatively entitled 'GET INTO LONDON THEATRE' (see Helena's article below).
- The aim? To encourage Londoners and others who don't usually go to West End shows to, you guessed it, 'Get Into London Theatre'.
- The incentive? Astonishingly low prices across a wide spectrum of London shows including Mamma Mia, My Fair Lady and The Lion King.
- The small print? Savings on tickets range from 25% to 70% depending on show and performance. Tickets available until 28 Feb 2003 for performances between 15 Jan and 31 Mar 2003. Tickets are not available for all performances, and are subject to availability. No booking fees or handling charges added. All bookings are final.

If past offers are anything to go by, we expect to see the tickets for the most popular shows sell out very quickly. So if you want to take advantage of these great deals take a look at prices and availability now:

2. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: 'Get Into London Theatre'

KEN LIVINGSTONE is campaigning to attract a new audience to West End
theatres. His new scheme called 'Get Into London Theatre' is supported by
the Greater London Authority and runs from today until March 29.

Livingstone teams up with actors Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Greco to
announce the scheme later today at the Criterion Theatre. Other supporters
include The Society of London Theatre, along with the producers for over
fifty West End shows who are offering reductions in the form of tickets for
between 5 UKP and 20 UKP. The Mayor's London Development Agency is matching
the theatre industry's discounts with a contribution of 350 000 UKP.

Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen of the Society of London Theatre said he was
delighted to be working with the mayor to attract a diverse theatre
audience. 'Not all Londoners are making the most of what is on their
doorstep, ' said Livingstone, 'I hope that through this discounted ticket
promotion they will discover what an enjoyable and rewarding experience
going to the theatre can be.'
