Arctic Monkeys Help Prove Cassandra Lily Allen Right
- No BRITS for Smile singer, but plenty for Sheffield no-shows
LILY ALLEN was proved correct in her prediction that she wouldn't win any BRITS, after walking away empty handed from the award ceremony at Earls Court last night, despite being nominated for four gongs.
Instead, the night belonged to the Arctic Monkeys, who bagged two of the major awards, Best British group and Best album.
In the run-up to the awards, Allen had considered not turning up for fear of not winning, but persuasion from her dad, Keith, changed her mind. Perhaps Keith had it all wrong, as not showing up worked wonders for the Arctic Monkeys. They sent "much appreciated" greetings via video instead.
Other winners were Amy Whitehouse for Best British female solo artist, an outcome also predicted by modern-day Cassandra Allen, and, one for the nostalgics, Take That, who were handed the Best British single prize, for Patience.
Those winners in full:
British male solo artist - James Morrison
British female solo artist - Amy Winehouse
British album - Arctic Monkeys
British group - Arctic Monkeys
British breakthrough act - The Fratellis
International breakthrough act - Orson
British live act - Muse
British single - Take That, Patience
International male solo artist - Justin Timberlake
