Problems
It came out this week that Sir
Paul McCartney plans to name the London Eye after himself.
As
if that wasn't enough for the old ego, he also wants to project an
image of his own eye onto the London Eye.
Not for good, but
as part of a promotion plan for his new DVD. The way it went was
something like this: someone came up with the idea of taking a
close-up photo of Macca’s eye for the cover of the DVD and then
passed on the artwork to the marketing guys.
They sat around
for a bit, thinking about famous eyes. Probably they argued for
hours over the merits of Nelson’s blind eye, the Big Brother
eye-logo and the way Anne Robinson winks at the end of The Weakest
Link. I expect a fun-loving member of the panel made the "eye-eye!"
joke every time the phone rang, but then came the eureka moment and
the link-up with the big wheel was the winner.
It’s all in
good fun, I suppose, but the precedent it sets is frightening. The
Rolling Stones are bound to match their famous lippy-mouth logo with
the mouth of the Thames and well-endowed rockers like Iggy Pop are
right now having pictures taken of their private parts to be beamed
on the Gherkin.

Dear LondonNet,
You missed the REAL
story.
Last week, Bill LaVorgna died. He was Liza Minnelli's
best friend, her music director, and had been the drummer for her
mother's band, too.
Liza goes to buy slacks at a Gap and
some fool allegedly says stupid stuff to Liza, about her mother, and
this makes international news.
What you should have reported
is that Liza performed in upstate New York. Concert goers reported
that at the end of her concert, she dedicated the last song to Bill
LaVorgna, and struggled not to cry as she sang acapella "I'll be
seeing you."
Now that's the real story. This week Liza
is performing in Spain.
Instead of "reporting" crap from some
under paid store clerk who has no life, try finding out the real
story and reporting that.
