How To Boil An Egg

You learn a few valuable lessons in life. One of which is how to boil an egg.

This essential task, simple and straightforward you might think, seems to divide the population into two groups; those that can boil and those that can't.

Well for those not in the know help is now on hand. Boffins from Lion Quality - the bastions of the UK's egg assurance scheme - have come up with a brilliant wheeze to ensure we can all boil to perfection.

The trick is to use an ink stamp on the shell which - thanks to a high-tech dye - will tell the erstwhile chef when the egg is ready to go. Cartons will be marked soft, medium or hard.

Now I like this. I like science and I welcome progress. The trouble is though, most stuff I can comprehend has already been invented and new science seems ever more baffling.

So it's good to see that understandable and practical inventions are still being turned out. Where would we be without the humble, yet ingenious, post-it note, for example?

Sadly, as clever as this egg idea is, it's missed the boat. I got there already, all on my own:

"To prevent shells cracking, place the eggs (preferably left out of the fridge for a bit) into a saucepan half-filled with cold water, and bring them to the boil. Once vigorously boiling, continue for three minutes for a soft egg, slightly more if you like it less runny. As soon as they're ready, plunge the eggs into cold water to stop them cooking on."

Next week I bring you the perfect cheese on toast...

Dear LondonNet,

Having looked at your website for cinema informations I went to Surrey Quays Odeon to watch the Break up.  However, the time stated on the website for a 20.30 showing on the 29th July was incorrect which meant that we had to wait for the correct time of 21.30.  This was not satisfactory due to working early the next morning. I will not be using your website in the future.

- Victoria

Dear Victoria,

Many thanks for your feedback.
After checking the listings sent to us by the cinema and the ones published on our website, they are both the same and the correct times of 10.40 1.10 3.45 6.30 9.30 are listed for The Break Up on Sat July 29th.

I also looked at the listings we have up for the week commencing July 21st, The Break Up is listed as showing at 8.30.
I can only presume that you have looked at the times for the previous week.
