Hand Baggage to Hell

To walk through the departure gate while fellow aeroplane escapees jostle for position in baggage reclaim is to celebrate one of life’s small victories.

Not anymore. Not at Heathrow. From the 1st of August, in the latest annoying measure brought in for security reasons, they’re taking the fun out of hand baggage by restricting the size of bags to 56cm long, 45cm wide and 25cm deep. That’s not much bigger than a jumbo pack of Weetabix.

A quick piece of research with clothes (not mine) and an empty cereal box reveals that you can get approximately one T-shirt, two pair of socks, a spare pair of strides and two pairs of underpants into the allotted space.
You’ll have to dump the undies if you want to pack contraceptives, which probably means you’ll be too embarrassed to use the latter in any case.

Some ex-members of the Hand Baggage Smug Club will no doubt react in “right, you’ve asked for it” fashion by bringing the biggest suitcase they can find.
Others will abide by the new restrictions and abstain from singles holidays.

Science may have the answer in the form of the much-heralded self-cleaning clothes, which work by using spikey carbon molecules that stab to death dirt microbes. “The bacteria effectively spill their guts,” is the scary quote I recall. Fantastic – until you get to security and you have to admit that you are accompanied by what amounts to an army of tiny terrorists.

On the bright side, you’ll be wearing a permanently clean pair of underpants, no matter what the bucket-based toilet facilities and at least you’ll miss out baggage reclaim on the way to the cells, which is the whole point after all.

FootlooseFootloose has gone from screen to stage - first on Broadway, two UK tours and now in the West End, with great success. Footloose tells the story of city boy Ren who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren breaks loose and soon has the whole town on its feet. It was only a matter of time before it became a smash hit stage musical.

ChicagoChicago: Murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, treachery... All those things we hold near and dear to our hearts.

So begins the musical Chicago... The kiss-and-tell tale of Roxie Hart, a nightclub singer who kills her lover; Velma Kelly the glamorous double-murderess vying to keep her press supremacy; and Billy Flynn, the slick lawyer who has the power to keep them from death row and make them in to stars.

I wondered why you have taken out the length of the films from your "film details" summary - I find it REALLY useful - please put it back!
Best wishes,
- Alison

Hi Alison,
Thanks for the feedback.
You are right, the running times were missing on most films. We've been updating our listings scripts recently following a server upgrade and it seems that the times were missed off during this. We've fixed the error and all films now show times (where provided by cinemas).
Sorry about the inconvenience and please let us know if you spot any other problems with the site - we always appreciate reader input.
Kind regards,
