2. LONDON DIARY
- Let’s Go Round Again

----------------------------------------

They’ve more or less raised the arch on the Wembley stadium to its full
height. It’s a helluva sight, already viewable from miles around and already
the greatest arch in the world, possibly, probably.

As well as proclaiming the glory of English football, the arch adds to the
curving of London. Curvey buildings are popping up everywhere. The new
building that has attracted most attention recently has been the ‘Gherkin’
tower, which tapers towards the sky in two elegant sweeps of approximately
vegetable angle.

Before that there was the London Eye and the Millennium Dome which both, one
lying flat the other standing up, show circles to the heavens. Architects
tell me new methods of construction and new materials have made possible all
these flights of fancy that would have otherwise remained on the
draughtsman’s doodle pad.

For a city, like other cities, more used to right angles – apart from the
odd St Paul’s dome – this development is exciting. I hope it’s not just some
architectural fad. Instead, I think it would be great if London became known
as Curve City Central. I don’t think I’m alone in this, as a recent
competition for ideas on new buildings for London included a giant, several
miles-long roller-coaster, constructed in the style of the London Eye, but
set the practical task of transporting commuters around the centre of town.
Round and round we go.
(David Clee)

(see; http://www.londonnet.com/ln/out/music/rockpoptickets.html)

I say the whole office is going to The Fleadh, well that's not quite true. I'm off to a slightly smaller type of open air music event. Ever the penny pincher, I'll save my loot and head with my daughter to the annual free live blues show down at Radnor Gardens, Twickenham. It's a friendly place and ideal for families, which is good news for me and my five year old. Word has it that some very famous names (think Rolling Stones) have jumped up on stage to make impromptu performances here before. This year's bands include The Vibrants and The Trend. (Peter D. Dear LondonNet,

I believe and have always believed Diana was murdered. I have recently read a book which seems to prove beyond doubt that this is true. It outlines all the facts and theories and makes sense of this tragedy. It is called 'Princess Diana the hidden evidence'. You may have read it already, but whether you have or not, it is the most truthful, believable story yet.
