2. LONDON DIARY
- Back to School with the Snakes
----------------------------------------

KIDS went back to school in Britain this week, to the delight of all those who have to drive past People Carriers dropping off gaggles of little 'uns right in the middle of rush hour.

I only spotted a fascinating thing about school holidays recently - kids all do different things from each other for six weeks! It might appear blindingly obvious, but I now believe it may be the cause of all social discontent, at least for those below the age of 16.

During term time, children are notoriously conformist pack animals who like nothing better than to skulk around on street corners swapping Pokemon cards or vials of crack cocaine. Happiness derives from ingratiating oneself into a group; despair from ex-communication. But in the summer, now that parents refuse to let their charges out of their sight, peer pressure is released and kids are free to follow their individual desires, like laying on the sofa watching daytime quiz TV or laying on the bed watching daytime quiz TV.

More importantly, at key moments, they follow the wishes of their parents. So, while Zara is stuck up some idyllic hill in Umbria, Kiley is stuck in the local shopping mall. By the time September comes around, whole vistas of hope have opened or closed - an intolerable situation for the pack which can only be sorted if the peer pressure police exert their authority with extreme prejudice. Bullying and petty thievery are inevitable.

The solution to this problem is surely obvious - in the summer all children should be sent on a reality TV jaunt to an Australian jungle where differences can be ironed out through a common cause against spiders, snakes and Tara Palmer Tomkinson.

(Yes, as all parents will agree, it has been a long summer...)

Gig Previews
- The Streets
, London Astoria, 5 Dec 2002
Tickets: UKP 12.50 plus booking fee.
Mike Skinner's The Streets have been called the UK's Eminem. But there's
more to this Brummie boy than that. Humorous observation and extraordinary
modesty coupled to an eclectic musical catalogue. It's an urban experience,
not uptown, just urban. Without doubt their debut is my album of the year
and I can't wait to see the whole effect live.

Madness, London Arena, New Date, 22nd December
The nutty boys return to the big stage after a number of festival-lite
Madstock gigs in Finsbury Park over the last few years. Suggs and the North
London band were one of the biggest selling UK acts of the 1980s - their
socially aware blend down of urban Ska proving the test of time and sounding
equally as danceworthy today as it was in 1983. But you know it's not all
about the past. In the 90s Suggs had a rather successful solo spell and,
since the original Madstock, the boys have been recording new material.
They're going to play all the classics - but do you remember the nutty
dances?

DIANA's DEATH: Five Years On

----------------------------------------

Dear LondonNet,

This theory lies in the basis of what could have happend in the future if
Diana and Dodi did not die. It is inevitable that the pair would marry and
it is also roumored that Diana was in the early stages of pregnacy at the
time of the crash.

On the event of married Diana would now become a Muslim as marrying into the
Al Fayed family. Also the event of children would lead to the Prince' s
having a muslim sibling.

This would create an initial problem for the Head of state, and future Head
of State, Prince William. The very notion of being head of the C of E and
having a Muslim family goes beyond all orthodox of the Royal family.

This being recognised as threatning to the Monarchy, The Duke of Edinburgh
plans to put a stop to it. His desperation to stay in the Monarchy lead him
to head the plans for assination on Diana and Dodi. With help from a
skeleton force from MI5 He could easily wipe them out without any suspicion.

Posing as press the MI5 forces chased Diana's vehicle through the winding
tunnel in Paris and with the help of Henri Paul was able to force the car to
collide, causing iminent death.

With the pair out the way, there remains no threat to the throne and no
embarasing future occasions whereby a muslim family could take captive of a
nation rather than their very own monarchy.

James Smith

Ed: A well argued piece James. I still don't buy it though.
More Diana Conspiracy Theories:
http://www.londonnet.co.uk/ln/talk/news/diana_conspiracy_theories.html

----------------------------------------

Dear LondonNet,

Why hasn't anyone mentioned 'Diana i will shock the world' which were the
headlines of most UK tabloid newspapers on the day before her death. Was she
about to make an announcment of some kind? We will never know.

She has bought 2 wonderful sons into this world, and they deserve to be left
in peace.
I think of Diana often, and i will never forget all the good that she did.
It is not how many years you get, it is what you do with them!

Ian Payne

Ed: Guess the headline was right then eh, Ian?
